Once early leaders Clark and Porterís Escort had been eliminated by engine failure, and the fast Lancia Fulvia of Källström and Häggbom penalised for a controversial time-keeping infringement, the 1970 Scottish Rally became a straight fight between Brian Culcheth and Johnstone Syer in their powerful Triumph 2.5PI and their BL teammates in the 1,275GT modelled here.
Initially unhappy with the carís handling on 12" rims, Hopkirk reverted to the 10" rims used in the Miniís heyday and in a gritty drive reeled in the big Triumph. Sadly it wasnít enough for an outright win but his final appearance in a Worksí Mini had provided a fitting finale to his glorious rallying career in Minis.
